Day 2 : Cochin

After breakfast, spend the full day exploring Cochin.

Cycle through the spice-scented streets of Kochi, as you learn about the Portuguese influence on the local art and architecture. Start off from Fort Kochi heading over to view the iconic Chinese fishing nets. Witness the early-morning buzz along the waterfront, pass by the small fish market- a chaotic place in the morning trading rush, before heading into Kochi’s main bazaar. From here you will take a truly historic ride into the spice trader’s area of Bazaar Road, where you will see old streets that are lined with fragrant spice warehouses and colorful stores. Breathe in the smell of ginger, cardamom, cumin, turmeric, and cloves while walking through this atmospheric area. Stop for a tea or a coffee at a local tea shop and take a moment to learn about the history of Kochi.

Proceed towards Jew Town where you can take a moment to admire the frescos adorning the Dutch Palace and see some of the amazing antique shops in the area. Explore some more parts of Mattancherry (the Muslim area) and Palace Road (the Hindu area). In the Hindu area, you will see a few temples, as well as vegetable and fruit markets.

You will then get back on your bike to cycle back along Kochi's waterfront, heading towards the center of town. Step into a local laundry shop to see how the dhobis beat the clothes clean. Make the final peddle back towards the heart of Fort Kochi but before ending this Kochi bike tour, you will go around some of the famous churches in the area, as well as visit the Dutch Cemetery. As the oldest European cemetery in India, the 104 tombs here provide great insight into the lives led by the Dutch and English migrants in India.

In the evening, you can enjoy a Kathakali dance show & learn about the fascinating art form. The most spectacular form of dance-drama in India, the origin of Kathakali goes back to 500 years.

Drive through the backwaters and witness a million shades of green in the network of emerald canals that wind through the land. Upon arrival at your accommodation, check in and freshen up.

Start the day with a morning yoga class with a local yoga teacher.

After breakfast, enjoy a country boat cruise. The cruise is a non-mechanized country boat which is pulled manually. This journey will take two hours and it will take you to the next village called ‘Thazhuppu’. Over here, you can relax and enjoy watching birds, the aquatic life, the green countryside, swaying palm trees and people waving from the banks of the backwaters. Finally, you will be dropped to the same point where you boarded the boat and then be transferred back to the hotel.

Enjoy a very interesting and cultural experience as you spend time with a local Kerala family and watch the life, tradition, culture and the relations among the members of the family. You can dine with them and taste the typical Nasarani food (Appam & Duck curry).

In the afternoon, you will have a visit to the local boat building yard/unit where you can see the building of boats and the craftsmanship of the local carpenters. Day 5 : Kondailip

Today morning, enjoy a yoga session.

After breakfast, proceed for Kodanad Elephant Camp.

Kodanad, set on the Southern banks of the Periyar River amid the beautiful high ranges near Perumbavoor, is one of the largest elephant training centers in Kerala. Earlier elephants captured from the Malayatoor forests (the forests in the East and North of Kodanad) were trained here. Since the introduction of a ban on elephant capture, Kodanad has been reduced to an elephant rescue & care center. Here in Kodanad, it is fascinating to watch elephants feeding themselves in their natural environment. You can also engage in bathing and massaging of adult and baby elephants under the supervision of its Mahouts. Visitors can also opt for an Elephant Safari in the Kodanad Elephant Sanctuary.

Early morning, enjoy a yoga class followed by breakfast at the hotel.

Later, a private vehicle will transfer you to Alleppey. Upon arrival, board a houseboat – a floating hotel, for one night.

The present-day houseboats are huge and slow-moving exotic barges used for leisure trips. They are, in fact, the reworked version of ‘kettuvallams’ of olden times. The original Kettuvallams were used to carry tons of rice and spices. This houseboat will take you through the backwaters & you can enjoy the spectacle of the vast paddy fields and the village life in rural Kerala. The green shores throbbing with vigor and pure beauty will never tire you.

Munnar is one of the most popular hill stations in India. It is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. Located at 1600 meters above sea level, this was once the summer resort of the British Government in South India.
